Cigar makers often produce very small batches of cigars for themselves, their families and employees. Sometimes they use specialty tobacco that they simply don’t have enough of for commercial production. Other times, they’re just experimenting. The fellows at Drew Estates have been making micro-batches from the origination of the company. Informally, these stogies were called private blend/Liga Privada cigars. However, on the ninth micro-batch of cigars something clicked. It clicked big time! The blend was so tasty that Drew Estate founders Jonathan Drew and Marvin Samel couldn’t keep it to themselves. Once it was determined that enough of the necessary tobaccos were available in sufficient quantity, production began. Profile of the Drew Estate Liga Privada No. 9 The wrapper is a Connecticut Broadleaf #1 Darks. The binder used is a plantation-grown Brazilian. The filler tobaccos are a select blend of Honduran and Nicaraguan leaf grown from Cuban seeds. You’ll find the strength to be medium to full with rich, hearty flavor too. In all, seven different tobaccos are employed in the creation of a complex and satisfying cigar. The Connecticut wrapper on the next one you smoke will have been hand-fermented for 18 months. The sticks are rolled by a select team of four pairs, and each pair crafts just 250 cigars per day.
