The story of these cigars begins in Cuba many years ago. Eradio Pichardo worked for Habanos S.A. in Cuba, helping create blends for brands like Partagas and other world-class marks. Like so many, his life led him off the island eventually, landing in Nicaragua to open his own factory, Tabacalera Pichardo. There, he continued making blends for other companies until a partnership with Luciano Meirelles blossomed into a new venture in 2019: Ace Prime cigars.

These Ace Prime Pichardo Reserva Familiar Connecticut cigars are among the first offerings by the company. It must be nice after four generations in the cigar industry for the Pichardo family to finally have blends under their own name. We finally get to enjoy what Don Eradio has learned over all his decades of experience with tobacco and cigar crafting.

The company states that “This Connecticut blend provides a well-balanced strength and subtle salinity while delivering a remarkably palatable experience.” We think they’re soft-pedaling it a bit because the Ace Prime Pichardo Reserva Familiar Connecticut cigars are quite a bit tastier than that description sounds. A mild pepper note gives way to a core of toasted cedar and graham cracker that is quintessential Connecticut (even if the CT wrapper leaf was grown in Ecuador).

Inside, the tobacco chosen is a high-quality combination of Nicaraguan and Dominican leaves, providing a touch of complexity to a cigar that is meant to show restraint instead of overwhelming the smoker. Lighting the Ace Prime Pichardo Reserva Familiar Connecticut cigar up, you can tell that Don Eradio is just getting started when it comes to producing his signature flavor profile for his house blends.

A french press of good ground coffee beans sounds amazing here. If you haven’t tried coffee that way, give it a shot. It’s not that hard to make (grounds in the carafe, then hot water, steep, press down to separate used grounds from coffee, enjoy). You get a nice hot pot to top yourself off with when you run dry, too.

Cool mornings in the fall.
Any flaws/downsides?

One review mentioned burn touch up, but that’s not really a crime in our world.
