Pura cepa means, “pure bred,” in Spanish. As you might expect, this is a puro. But from which country? Is it another Dominican blend from Rafael Nodal and Jochy Blanco, pulling tobacco from his farms in the DR?
Nope. Ol’ Rafael is into the Nicaraguan tobacco stores for this one.
The Aging Room Pura Cepa blend pulls together leaves harvested on farms in Condega, Estelí, Jalapa, and the rich volcanic soil of Ometepe. Having read that, studious cigar aficionados will no doubt guess that the Plasencias are behind this one. As the world’s largest growers of tobacco and probably the foremost experts on Nicaraguan leaf, they’re an excellent partner to roll this one up.
Outside, the Pura Cepa cigar has a nice oily Habano wrapper, but don’t get suckered in – this cigar is a strong one. Body is ramped up to full and strength is in the red. Go slow and savor the flavors, or you’ll be reeling. Enjoy the initial pepper and wood, the confectionary sweetness, and the baked cedar complexity as you go along. This one develops and offers quite a bit of depth, as well as an intriguingly restrained pepper note. It’s right on the edge and will keep you tasting all along the way.
We’re loving this take on Nicaraguan tobacco. We’d expect nothing less from Rafael Nodal and the Plasencias.
