A.J. Fernandez cigar samplers are all over the place, just like Abdel J. Fernandez himself. There’s a kaleidoscope of flavors and blends – more than any of us really need – because the man is just so prolific. You won’t usually know him under his own brand name. Instead, you’ve probably encountered him through other brands like Diesel, Man O’ War, or Ave Maria. Or perhaps you met him through famous blends he collaborated on for other companies like the Foundation Highclere Castle, Southern Draw Jacob’s Ladder, or H. Upmann 175th Anniversary?
Like we said, A.J. Fernandez is everywhere.
It sometimes seems like he’s just working at Blending Central and when half of the cigar makers out there need a new blend, they stop by his window and get his take on it. How else could one man touch so many cigars and wind up on so many top 25 lists?
AJ Fernandez cigar samplers include a number of his best blends, but typically are focused on his own brands, instead of those from a ton of otherwise-independent companies.
He was clearly born to do it, starting work in a Cuban cigar operation at the tender age of 13. He would scurry over to the Finca la China cigar factory after school and meet up with his father and uncle to get a firsthand education in cigarmaking. Like many successful cigar guys, he was gaining the advantage of a multi-generational wealth of experience with tobacco.
His own blends that appear in AJ Fernandez cigar samplers wouldn’t be created until many years later when he made his home in Estelí, Nicaragua (like so many other cigar artisans).
These are an embarrassment of riches from one of the industry’s most sought-after blenders.
As we go on and A.J. keeps crafting, we have no doubt that these samplers will continue to get updated with a variety of tasty new cigars. You can try to keep up, but we know A.J.’s out there pulling together a blend a week (at least) and putting us all to shame with his productivity and ability to do excellent work at a crazy pace.
