This cigar is really something. Two Top-10 finishes on the annual Cigar Aficionado cigar rankings in 2015 and 2017 mean this cigar can hang with some of the best sticks in the world. But how? When new blenders take generations to reach the heights, how is Ashton managing it in just a few measly decades?
Well, to put it simply, they’re “cheating.”
Through a partnership with Arturo Fuente, the Ashton brand features tobaccos from the legendary Dominican estates that have produced OpusX and countless other Fuente smash hits. In this case, Ashton is doing something it hasn’t done before: blending Dominican and Nicaraguan tobacco and trying to find just the right balance between them.
Thus the name, “Ashton Symmetry.”
Dominican tobaccos used in the filler blend come from Chateau de la Fuente and Villa Gonzalez (both in the Dominican Republic). The Nicaraguan fillers are grown on a Fuente family farm in Nicaragua called “Un Buen Vecino.” These leaves are bound with Dominican tobacco and then closed up using an absolutely world-class golden brown Ecuador Habano wrapper. The flavor blend is outstanding: cinnamon spice, toasted figs, and a creamy finish that just leaves you saying, “Damn, this thing really is perfectly balanced.”
