Caldwell Long Live the Queen takes the throne in a highly successful royal family that includes Long Live the King and The King is Dead blends. Each has scored impressive ratings, with the King is Dead even earning a spot on Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 list.
Each is built largely around Dominican tobacco, but the Long Live the Queen cigar does things her own way. She’s built from the ground up with a blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan long-fillers, an Indonesian Sumatra binder, and an exotic reddish-brown Cameroon wrapper. Take her in from floor to crown – she’s got a legendary bearing that none can deny.
The tobacco in this cigar was aged for a year after rolling at William Ventura’s El Maestro factory in the Dominican Republic. Robert Caldwell knows the value of aging well, especially after all his tobacco sampling done for the Lost and Found line. That line aimed to find tobaccos in aging rooms that had missed their moment for one reason or another and were now ready for prime time. With a wealth of successful blends, it’s obvious that a little time to develop can make for a very fine cigar.
If you like ladies stacked (and that’s a fact), this one is holding nothing back. Whew, boy.
Those fortunate enough to get an audience with Caldwell’s Long Live the Queen cigar will find her to be quite a lot to handle. She’s woody, peppery, and full of feisty flavor. The genuine African Cameroon wrapper will probably send you for a loop if you’re not familiar with it. There’s nothing in the Western tobacco profiles to prepare you for your first dance with Cammy Leaf. And it can be a bit of an acquired taste. But for those who acquire it, it’s an incredibly interesting flavor. And it’s wrapped outstanding cigars like the 97-rated Cigar of the Year-winning Don Carlos blend from Arturo Fuente. It can absolutely be a part of a memorable and highly enjoyable blend.
It’s time for your audience with Her Majesty. Step into the throne room, and don’t forget to say:
