Caldwell Lost and Found Antique cigars are a totally different beast from the usual L&F series. While those cigars showcase special blends and interesting tobacco, Robert Caldwell clearly hit the motherlode when he found these. Instead of a single interesting cigar, he rained down a Stickstorm™ of gorgeous and finely aged cigars. There’s crazy variety here, and we hardly know where to start.
Caldwell sums up Lost and Found Antique cigars explaining that they are “the oldest, most special, best-tasting cigars…The caviar of what we do with Lost & Found.” The cigar business is full of hype and puffery (no pun intended), but we believe that RC has something quite interesting and enjoyable in these little bundles. He’s definitely reached a new level, here.
Caldwell isn’t saying where the Antique line of cigars was made, but we have learned that it is a well-known operation in the Dominican Republic. Thus, a lot of what you find in these cigars is Dominican tobacco. That said, there’s no real limit on what you might find here. These are fascinating and long-aged cigars that have to be smoked to be believed. We’ve seen some that have been maturing for over a decade, so there are incredibly smooth and complex smokes in the line.
You’ll find a Mexican Maduro that’s been brooding since 2004, a 2006 Colorado Claro that’s just old enough to drive, a rich 2007 Ecuador Connecticut, a more recent vintage in the 2013 Connecticut, as well as a selection of Habanos, and lots more.
But how did they get all this GLORIOUS SMOKE?
Did the Caldwell crew actually pull off a heist of a major manufacturer? Their motto says “run from us,” so who knows? This is something serious, though. Caldwell Antique cigars are a group of blends that have been patiently aging and waiting for their moment, which has now finally come.
The blends were not located totally intact. Some of the stuff was shared with Caldwell and he kept some for his own stash and used it as inspiration to explore the tobacco library available and create new stogies that would suit a variety of tastes.
As you click through our selection of Lost and Found Antique cigars, you’ll see tons of tobacco types. If you’re wondering what “desflorado” means (you’ll see it on a few blends), it’s a term that refers to the cutting off of flowers, seeds, and possibly upper parts of the tobacco plant. The reason for this is that plants put resources into producing their various parts, but when you get rid of these things, you free up more resources for use in those giant green tobacco leaves. That’s the part we want. Thus, desflorado leaves are stronger.
If you want to know more, ask a gardening grandma and she’ll tell you all about it. Bring some Antiques for her and grandpa to enjoy with you while you’re at it.
