The arrival of the Caldwell Lost and Found Instant Classic San Andrés cigar means that the new era of Lost and Found cigars is here. The Instant Classic is leading the way as the company creates a new approach to L&F cigars. In the previous era, the focus was on finding orphaned production runs of cigars that missed their moment. These wayward stogies were then given official names and brought to market as part of the Lost and Found series. But eventually, these sticks ran out.
What would Caldwell and company do? Well, they’re tobacco people. Cigar people. They hit the road and got to work MAKING the next generation of blends. It ain’t Lost and Found. It’s Bunched and Bound!
Instant Classic was as good of a place to restart as any. The original release was much enjoyed as a straightforward but decent smoke that offered light spice and sweetness. It was nutty with little flashes of fruit and made for a great easygoing piece of puff. Could Caldwell trace his steps and keep the essence of what made it good? As it turns out, yes! The Instant Classic Habano is right on the money.
This is the big brother of the habano. Not light. Not easygoing. This one is quite complex.
As you might have guessed, the Caldwell Lost and Found Instant Classic San Andrés no longer follows the original format of Habano over Indonesian and Dominican tobacco. This one uses a long-filler blend of Dominican Republic and Nicaraguan leaf with a Mexican San Andrés wrapper. While many cigar makers turn their San Andrés leaf into dark, heavily fermented maduro, Caldwell takes a different approach. This is a light brown leaf that comes in with totally unexpected flavors. Probably, this is due in part to the years of aging that the cigar rested for before it was offered for sale.
Toast up the foot, and you’ll be treated to so many different flavors, that you’ll be wondering if you’re smoking a single cigar. Hickory spice, honeyed cream, fragrant lemongrass, leather, black tea… the Caldwell Lost and Found Instant Classic San Andrés is just one of those stogies that is going to cause you to taste whatever you imagine in the smoke. It tickles the tongue, playing with many notes on the flavor wheel, keeping you not just interested, but eager to taste whatever comes next.
In short, this is a Willy Wonka blend, and the snozzberries do indeed taste like snozzberries!
