The Savages cigar is an extension of Caldwell’s 91-rated Long Live the King blend. LLtK featured a Dominican Corojo wrapper, Dominican binder, and a Dominican and Nicaraguan filler blend. This one switches out the wrapper for a Habano-seed leaf to soften things up a bit. The smoke tastes of nuts, leather, Arabica coffee, and spice, with nice fruits on the retrohale. It’s a quality change to an intriguing blend, and one fans will find fairly interesting in comparison.
We’re also loving the art on this stick. Cigars have to be one of the few products with the most interesting packaging in the world. Usually, products have graphic designers working to make things look good, but cigars are on a whole other level, putting straight up art on bands and boxes. In this case, a dude named PixelPancho from Italy created the steampunk dude that graces these smokes. If you check out his other art, you’ll find massive murals and pieces of absolutely killer street art.
His themes often combine human figures with mechanical and organic elements. It usually looks like cyborgs are growing flowering plants within. A basic read might be that he’s exploring the tension between our mechanical world and the natural world. To this writer, it looks like no matter how unnatural we get, the organic world will always find a way to creep back inside us.
Perhaps in the form of cigar smoke?
Pop the pigtail cap and fire this one up. There’s a savage inside you that wants to connect to the outside world again.
