Drew Estate is so much more than a cigar maker, and Drew Estate ashtrays definitely put the company’s full personality on display. From audacious boombox ashtrays to towering Brooklyn Bridge ashtrays, you’re going to find something that at least stops you from scrolling, no matter what.
Drew Estate is many things but never, never boring.
A lot of it stems from the company’s roots. This isn’t a multi-generational tobacco family. Drew Estate is the product of fate, bringing a New York boy to SUNY Oneonta, back to lower Manhattan, and then all the way to Estelí, Nicaragua. If Jonathan Drew hadn’t had huevos of Acero, he never would have found the courage to make the moves he did. But he was as game as they come, and so when opportunity knocked, he was always one of those dudes to open the door wide and pour a little mezcal for his new guest.
Early on, one of those moments came when he met Jessi Flores, a talented Nicaraguan street artist. He invited Flores to move from tagging buildings to tagging production pieces like Drew Estate ashtrays. As head of Subculture Studios, DE’s in-house art commune, Flores helped establish a look and feel that would help Drew Estate stand out like a water tower on a Brooklyn rooftop. Having access to inspiration like that is a big part of what makes DE accessories so memorable and fun.
These ain’t your grandpa’s ashtrays. But he just might get a kick out of them.
