Meaning “over the table,” the word sobremesa doesn’t have a direct translation in English. It’s a lovely practice in Latin culture describing the time spent drinking, smoking, and enjoying our loved ones long after the meal is done. It’s an excellent name for the Dunbarton Sobremesa Brulee cigar, the second release in the Dunbarton Sobremesa line.

The first of the line was the Dunbarton Sobremesa cigar, which was Steve Saka’s (former President and CEO of Drew Estate) first blend released under his Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust company. So you could say that this follow-up cigar is a special one. Let’s see what makes it tick.

Saka stated his inspiration for the Dunbarton Sobremesa Brulee cigar was the “milder, shade wrapped Liga's of my early years.” In his opinion, the last three decades of Connecticut shade sticks were uninspiring and dull to his palate. He wanted to share with the cigar-smoking world the mellower Connecticut cigars he so fondly remembers.

To achieve this, Saka took the OG Sobremesa blend, removed the Pennsylvania Broadleaf Ligero, decreased the Nicaraguan Ligero, increased the milder Condega Seco, and changed the wrapper to an Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf. Four types of Nicaraguan long fillers—Pueblo Nuevo Criollo, Estelí Hybrid ligero, Condega C-SG, and Estelí C-98—still make up the core blend and are cradled by a Mexican Matacapan negro de Temporal binder.

Once lit, this tidy blonde beauty reveals flavor notes of peanuts, cream, caramel, and sweetness. It’s challenging to find anyone who doesn’t like Creme Brulee the dessert.
