In prior years, E.P. Carillo has put out a fairly interesting cigar line he called the Short Run. Each time he comes up with a new blend for the line, as the name indicates, it’s issued as a limited edition cigar and a short production run is completed. This time around, we’re receiving the E.P. Carillo Short Run Retro 2021.
What’s retro about it? Well, fans of E.P. Carillo will notice that the original logo has returned. Perhaps there was some inspiration taken from the early days of the brand for this blend. Instead of the Short Run 2016’s Brazilian Cubra wrapper, this time around we’re getting some classic tobacco. The E.P. Carillo Short Run Retro 2021 cigar features an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper for that traditional flavor. This cover leaf is then joined by a high-quality Nicaraguan binder and a mix of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobacco for the filler.
E.P. Carillo is fresh off of two outstanding Cigar Aficionado Cigar of the Year wins in 2020 and 2018. The man is on fire like a well-lit stogie! Every blend that comes off his table is going to generate a lot of buzz, so we expect the new E.P. Carillo Short Run Retro 2021 cigars to fly off our shelves, never to return. If you’re in on the E.P. Carillo hype train, this is the next stop.
The names of the vitolas in the E.P. Carillo Short Run Retro 2021 cigar line are references to vinyl records, which Perez-Carillo listens to while blending. He mentioned spinning “Spain” by Chick Corea on repeat if you want to know what he’s grooving to when testing tobaccos. Here you get the Short Play (a 5 x 50 Robusto), the Extended Play (a 6 x 52 toro), and the Long Play (6 x 60).
You decide how long your listening/smoking sessions will be.
