It was already enough. It was already MORE than enough. E.P. Carrillo has blessed us with two astronomically wonderful Cigar of the Year winners in the 98-point Pledge and 96-point Encore. He could simply ride off into the sunset and enjoy his success. He’s a legend already.
But no.
Can you give up your passion just because you’ve attained extraordinary victories? Of course not. He can’t lay down the art of tobacco blending any more than he can lay down his own arm. The man makes fine cigars with his time on this Earth and that’s that.
This brings us to the E.P. Carrillo Allegiance cigar. You’re not going to be surprised when we tell you that it is world-class and fantastic. Truly! It’s right there with his best work and will make it hard for people to deny that he’s still at the top of the game. He shows no signs of descending from his peak.
It’s delicious, this cigar.
E.P Carrillo Allegiance cigars are made with a Nicaraguan filler blend, which won’t shock anybody. Nica Leaf is about as good as it gets and has pretty capably dethroned Cuban tobacco when it comes to cigar making (at least for the American audience). The wrapper is a flavorful Ecuadorian Sumatra.
The cigar itself is box pressed, as E.P. Carrillo’s other great cigars were. That familiar shape just screams “magnificent smoke inside!” And of course, the smoke is a premium experience from beginning to end. It starts off with cinnamon and fruit. These bright notes then develop into coffee with hints of honey. Then, a nuttiness joins in and you find yourself just settling into the pleasure that is a perfect blend. There’s no need to be humble. Perfection exists and it’s in el maestro’s stogies.
It earned 94 points from Cigar Aficionado, who said that “From the first puff, this dark, box-pressed toro shows layers of flavor with a notably sweet-and-spicy character accented by notes of nutmeg and cinnamon, all driven by a persistent undercurrent of wood.” Yum.
The cherry on top of the sundae is that there are 50 signed boxes that will enter circulation. Much like Willy Wonka’s golden tickets, they’re sent out at random. Find one and you win a gorgeous ashtray!
He really spoils us. We’re going to be a bunch of brats by the time he’s done.
