The Epic Corojo cigar is one of the reasons that the company is still here today. Epic is a relatively new brand in the cigar world, having only been founded officially around 2010. This makes Epic relatively young in an industry with juggernauts that have over a hundred years of history. However, with new cigar companies popping up, a decade of success is pretty decent and helps Epic stand out from the newest crop of cigar makers.
Corojo is one of the original blends created by founder Dean Parsons and Epic. The other was a Maduro for the earthy tobacco lovers. Since the beginning, this has been one of the cigars on which the company’s reputation rests. And it’s such a classic choice. Corojo was, for decades, the mandatory wrapper for a good Cuban cigar. Anyone using it for a cover leaf generally seeks to capture a bit of that beautiful traditional punch that made Cuban cigars a global sensation.
Of course, we aren’t getting Cuban tobacco for the Epic Corojo cigar. The embargo made sure of that. Instead, the Epic team sourced this leaf in Ecuador, where the natural cloud cover produces partially shade-grown tobacco that offers balance instead of unrestrained sun-grown potency. There’s a place for both in the cigar world, but this blend isn’t about that life. Inside the Corojo wrapper is a Dominican binder holding Dominican and Nicaraguan leaf.
The flavors are rough, as expected for a Dominican blend like this – leather, espresso, and even some oak. It isn’t particularly heavy on black pepper. Instead, there’s a relaxing flavor profile to greet you and offer you a taste of a straightforward cigar made just the right way. Tabacalera Von Eicken, also responsible for Kristoff cigars, ensures that these stogies come out as they should. And they handle that task quite capable, reliably making flagship smokes for a brand with a name set for big things.
Not everything has to be over the top with Epic. Some things instead are just wonderful every day.

Smoke it fast and the flavor will go downhill quickly. This is true with most blends – you don’t want them to burn too hot – but doubly true with this one.
