When Guillermo Rico founded Gran Habano Cigars in 2003, his son George was the fourth generation of the Rico cigar family. The Gran Habano brand prides itself on attention to detail, strict quality control, and producing premium cigars using traditional cigar-making methods. While George is on board with all of this, he does push the traditional boundaries of marketing and branding with a number of his blends, including Gran Habano Zulu Zulu Connecticut cigars.

The Gran Habano Zulu Zulu Connecticut blend was created years ago by George Rico for his personal use. Luckily for us enthusiasts, the blend became public in 2011. The latest version is a collaboration that features the work of street artist MasPaz. A portion of sales from this edition of Gran Habano Zulu Zulu Connecticut cigars goes to the La Casa de la Madre y el Niño orphanage in Colombia. The artist MasPaz was adopted while living in this orphanage.

The original edition of Gran Habano Zulu Zulu Connecticut cigars was produced in Honduras. These new sticks are rolled in George Rico’s factory in Little Havana, Miami. George states this move made sense as this is a close collaboration with MasPaz, who hails from Washington D.C. Each and every box of these cigars receive an original decorative line drawing from MasPaz. These drawings display a protective mother cradling her child. The cigars themselves come wrapped in a thin black paper band with the same illustration.

First, a previously private blend of Nicaraguan long-fillers meets a Nicaraguan binder. This tobacco is cultivated in Estelí and Jalapa Valley on Gran Habano farms. Next, an Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf wraps up the filler blend. Once this limited edition cigar is smoking, you’ll find rich flavors of cedar, spice, sweet cream, and pepper.
