At a diner parking lot, two cars park far from the entrance. One figure exits a car with a folder. The other rolls down a window. The folder goes in through the window, and both depart.
The document drop is complete.
In the world of conspiracy theories and mysticism, an entire story can hang on a simple rumor, or even less. To have an original document, however, changes everything. A redacted version of a primary report can provide fuel for analysis for decades to come.
Illusione’s Original Documents cigars include some of the first blends that helped put the brand on the map. Don’t get it twisted, though. There are blends in here that are still landing on Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 list.
In general, these are Nicaraguan puros, featuring a blend of Nicaraguan Criollo '98 and Corojo '99. The wrappers are “AAA Grade” Corojo Rosado tobacco, and the smoke is medium to full-bodied and fairly complex.
The sizes here vary a ton, and each has a somewhat abrupt name: 68, mj12, mk, cg:4, 88, 888, 2 and crowned thorns, 1 Dark Prince… and so on. Each one has some significance to the community of people who seek to get a peek behind the curtain of lies that obscures the truths of our world.
There’s the cg:4, which was Cigar Aficionado’s #7 cigar of 2007, and earned a 93 rating. The name stands for “corona gorda,” and the 4 is a reference to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. This one won’t bring about the ruin of the world or your bank account. It’s balanced, strong, and offers the flavors of sweet leather, nuts, and cocoa.
There’s also the mk, which carries a 92 rating and was named Cigar Aficionado’s # 24 cigar of 2016. The name is a reference to the CIA’s MKUltra program, which focused on methods and substances that would lead to mind control. The name is also a reference to Illusione owner Dion Giolito’s belief that whoever makes the best corona "kontrols" the cigar market. It’s an optimal blending format due to its proportions and ratios of tobacco. This one offers a smoke that tastes of coffee and spice with a sweet finish. And if you start confessing your innermost secrets, it’s on you. There’s nothing classified in this smoke.
There are meanings to other vitola names:
88 is for the year Giolito left Oklahoma to come to Reno for college. mj12 stands for the “Majestic 12,” the alleged code name of a secret committee of scientists, military leaders, and government officials assembled by Truman to investigate UFO activity after Roswell…
hl stands for the “holy lance” that pierced the side of Christ on the Cross…
The other cigars have their own meanings too. Rather than spoil things, we’ll let you disappear down an interesting rabbit hole on your own.
After all, discovery is part of the fun.
