The Jake Wyatt S.E. 2019 cigar was named for the “special essence” that the founders bring to the table in the form of their experience and passion for cigars. It was certainly the case for Neil Garcia, one part of the company’s founding duo. Lots of guys love baseball, but Neil’s talent and drive took him all the way to the big leagues. His business partner Gerard Abajian is a similar dynamic character. Whether it was his work as a firefighter or working in his family cigar business (Mardo Cigars in Laguna Niguel, California), he attacked his daily goals with the type of energy that’s honestly exciting to be around.
In 2020, the two longtime friends combined their powers and Jake Wyatt cigars were born, named after their sons.
The Jake Wyatt S.E. 2019 cigar is built on a foundation of Dominican tobacco, which is featured in each of the initial “Gourmet Collection” cigars released by the company. This rich leaf is part of what drew the founders into the cigar business on a visit to the DR. There, they became convinced that they could put out blends worthy of smoking, if only they tapped their best artisanal inclinations and avoided skimping out to save a buck.
In a Fuente-esque twist, the wrapper on this perfecto is also a beautiful copper-colored Dominican Habano Rosado leaf. But one glance at the cigar will tell you that there’s a lot more going on here than in a standard Dominican puro.
Like other JW stogies, the Jake Wyatt S.E. 2019 cigar has some really fun wrapper accents on the head and foot that aren’t just for looks – they actually add a really fun note to the beginning of the smoke. The strips are bona fide Mexican San Andrés Maduro tobacco, and they help kick off the first draw right from the start with some nice pepper. This is then joined by the rest of the flavors like vanilla, cream, cedar, cinnamon, and leather all get into the mix.
