The roots of the La Gloria Cubana cigar brand, the “Glory of Cuba,” trace back to 1885 Cuba. This was when Sociedad Cabañas y Castro created the brand. For over twenty years, the brand enjoyed success among local smokers. In 1905 La Gloria Cubana was acquired by José Rocha. Mr. Rocha would manufacture the cigars in his Havana factory until he passed in 1954. At this time, the Cifuentes family purchased the brand and moved production to the Partagás Factory, where they still make the Cuban version of the cigar today
Cifuentes sold the name rights of La Gloria Cubana cigars to Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Sr., who started manufacturing the non-Cuban version in the Dominican Republic after a decade of releasing small batches out of his factory in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood. Around the start of the cigar boom of the 1990s, La Gloria Cubana cigars became best sellers as they were a nice boutique alternative to the more prominent Cuban heritage brands.
The brand continued to grow in popularity, and Ernesto Sr. eventually sold it to the parent company of General Cigar in the late 1990s. His son, Carrillo Jr. would stay on as master blender for over a decade. Today, with General Cigar's backing, La Gloria Cubana cigars are produced in large numbers to meet the demand. Now more than a century from its humble beginnings, La Gloria Cubana cigars are as quality as ever. We see this in the La Gloria Cubana Serie R, which uses a big ring gauge, a well-aged Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, and Dominican and Nicaraguan long-fillers to deliver a smoke with a bold abundance of flavor Cigar Aficionado awarded a 92 rating. Another example is the La Gloria Cubana Special Release Artesanos de Obelisco, which provides an excellent, complex experience with the help of a core blend of double Nicaraguan ligero and Dominican long-fillers.
Whatever your pleasure is, La Gloria Cubana cigars offer you a way to get that and more.
