How often is a company’s most successful cigar also one of its best values? For the La Palina Classic, it’s true. This is a 93-rated stick that took home the #22 Cigar of the Year ranking in 2013 from Cigar Aficionado. Despite the accolades, the Classic hasn’t turned into a crazy-priced cigar. It’s luxury within reach, and for that, we love it.
Outside there’s a Brazilian Habano-seed wrapper, with a Honduran binder and a spectacular blend of Dominican, Honduran, and Nicaraguan long-fillers on the inside. The flavors for the original blend tend to be bright and tangy, with notes of nuts and light chocolate. Since the early days of this cigar’s release, the line has been a bit revamped and expanded. Rolling moved to the General Cigar Co in the Dominican Republic, which also makes smokes for Macanudo, Partagas, and Cohiba.
Must be a mighty fine aroma in those blending rooms, right?
The original blend appears to have been replaced by the Natural, featuring a Honduran Habano Oscuro wrapper and flavors of caramel, hazelnut, and spice. There are also three other wrappers: 1) The La Palina Classic Connecticut has an Ecuadoran Connecticut wrapper, with flavors of cedar, leather, and caramel; 2) a Honduran Rosado wrapper, with flavors of cedar, minerals, and dark cacao; and 3) a Honduran Maduro wrapper, with flavors of dark roasted coffee, black pepper, and earth.
No matter which way you go, this is a well-liked blend that showcases tremendous quality, artistry, and flavor.
