Macanudo Estate Reserve is a blend series showcasing partnerships with respected artisans. The first entry is Flint Knoll, a cigar with tobacco aged in cabernet barrels from Napa Valley’s Flint Knoll Winery. The flavor profile of the smoke doesn’t wind up being “winey” in any way but instead offers notes of the toasted wood of the barrel in balance with others. It’s an excellent project to bring together a legend of the cigar industry and an up-and-coming winery that aims for the very highest standards.
These stogies aren’t alone in experimenting with the barrel + tobacco formula. Other manufacturers have also used barrel aging to impressive effect. Other examples include Perdomo Champagne (bourbon barrels), Davidoff Winston Churchill Late Hour (scotch casks), Cohiba Macassar (rum), and Pappy Van Winkle Barrel Fermented (bourbon). If Macanudo decides to extend the Estate Reserve cigar line in the future, it could be very interesting to see what other collaborations might be in store.
