My Father Cigars Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic Cigars

It all started in Baez, Cuba, many years ago. Or did it start in Miami? Or Nicaragua? Well, it depends on what you think the beginning of the company is, but since this is the Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic, let’s go back to that beautiful sunny island where Don Pepin himself grew up.

In 1961, José Garcia was born. He started in his uncle’s cigar factory, and as the decades passed, he became a master roller and blender, designed fine blends for leading Cuban cigar brands, and ultimately left the island to find his own destiny.

The El Rey de Los Habanos cigar company was founded in 2002 in Miami. Years later, production would be moved to Nicaragua and the company would be rebranded as My Father cigars, but the traditions of the Pearl of the Antilles (as Cuba is sometimes known) have always stayed with him. Now, in the Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic, they’re on full display.

From the Cuban-seed Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper to the interior blend of Nicaraguan tobaccos, this smoke is built to bring you as close to Cuba as you can get without hopping in a boat. Flavors of leather, wood, and toasted almonds will greet you as you enjoy this highly-rated stick, which took Cigar Aficionado’s #17 ranking in 2007 on the official list of the Top 25 Cigars of the Year.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, each vitola is named after the birthdate of a Garcia family member.

What’s a good pairing with it?

Solid whiskies would be fine, but a nice hazy IPA might make things more interesting. Get your hands on a Sierra Nevada Hazy Little Thing and use a pint glass if you’ve got one so you can really appreciate the experience.
What’s the best time/place to smoke this cigar?

When you’ve got a good chair outside and endless time to occupy it.
Any flaws/downsides?

Some found it straightforward. It’s not Don Pepin’s most complex project, but we don’t view that as a bad thing.
