Thank goodness the Garcias didn’t give up on this one! They would have missed out on yet another award for the trophy case! The My Father El Centurion H-2K-CT (love that catchy name, right?) managed to take home a 93 rating and the number 16 spot on Cigar Aficionado’s 2016 Top 25 Cigars rankings.
This is a super flavorful blend that delivers rich cedar, coffee bean, and spice flavors thanks to its ultra-rare wrapper, the “H-2K-CT Connecticut.” Only the My Father El Centurion H-2K-CT cigar uses this wrapper. It isn't shade grown or broadleaf, but a Havana 2000 Cuban-seed hybrid strain grown in open sunlight and cultivated in the Connecticut River Valley. The resulting color is lighter than broadleaf, but darker than Connecticut shade – just the sweet spot the Garcias were looking for, perhaps.
Jaime Garcia, the son of My Father Cigars founder Don Pepin Garcia, calls it a “team effort” between father and son. It’s a medium-bodied cigar with full flavor that they tried to make accessible to every palate. The box pressing ensures that this one burns long and burns even. It’s a real treat and a fantastic pickup for fans of the original El Centurion, the re-release, or people who are new to the blend altogether.
