My Father cigars always have a strong strain of Cuban tradition running through them. Whether it’s first-generation Cuban-seed tobaccos, classic Cuban cigar making methods, or something else, Don Pepin Garcia certainly hasn’t forgotten where he came from. My Father La Gran Oferta cigars are another chapter in a long story that started decades ago in Baez, Cuba. In fact, this is really another look at an old chapter. You see, “La Gran Oferta” is an old Cuban cigar brand name that the Garcias have revived so that it can live again in spectacular fashion as a premium smoke rolled up by one of the cigar industry’s very best companies.
La Gran Oferta (reborn) features an Ecuadorian Rosado Habano wrapper. It’s a nice dark red color with plenty of obvious oil. Even growing it outside of Cuba is a special feat unto itself, but Ecuadorian farmers definitely specialize in cultivating wrapper leaf. Inside, there’s Cuban-seed Nicaraguan binder and filler, and the total flavor profile is quite nice: earth, spice, chocolate, almonds, and caramel for the finish.
We don’t know what grand offer this cigar was originally referring to, but we do know that when the Garcias offer us a smoke, we graciously accept it, no matter what.
