Sam Leccia created the Nub and Cain brands for Oliva in an effort to attract customers with a taste for full-bodied cigars. Leccia sought to produce a cigar using straight Ligero for the maturing palates of smokers. Since Nub Cain F cigars were built to push the potent boundaries while remaining balanced, the "F" in the name stands for "Forced Refined."
Ligero translates to "light." This is fitting since the leaves come from the tobacco plant's top portion, which is drenched in sunlight. Ligero is ultra-potent and adds extra body to the blend. Estelí Ligero is among the strongest, and the percentage of Nicaraguan Ligero from Estelí in Nub Cain F cigars is higher than others in the Cain line. This makes the Nub Cain F the strongest of the Cain cigars.
Nub Cain F cigars are Nicaraguan puros made from 100% triple fermented ligero. The wrapper is a heavy, oiled-up Habano Ligero leaf. These Nub cigars are short and plump, all with 60+ ring gauges. They rarely measure more than 4 inches long. This format creates an environment where each pull of the cigar is loaded with rich, deep, layered flavors.
Cigar Aficionado awarded the Nub Cain F a 90-rating and called out earth, leather, coffee, and bean notes with a dried cherry finish. This is a medium-full complex cigar that delivers serious flavor from the start, only to build and build until the (actual) nub. At no point does the smoke become harsh or unbalanced.
