Would you believe that some people consider this monster of a cigar a “go-to? As surprising as it might sound, there’s a solid group of cigar lovers who enjoy nothing more than taking a whole-ass evening to burn down this huge honkin’ stick of tobacco. And they do it regularly!
Big Johnny by Island Jim is all eight inches long (and unlike some people’s reported 8 inches, which require a degree in advanced trigonometry to make a case for, we simply measured this one. It’s for real). Then, you get a ring gauge of 66. It’s a feast of tobacco that will absolutely satisfy for hours, unlike… ok, well, you get the idea. This thing gets the job done!
It’s packed with flavorful Honduran long-fillers. Bunches of ‘em. And then there’s a Nicaraguan Jalapa wrapper that is fermented to perfection to go with all of it. It does a capable job of balancing things out, and so the flavor profile takes you on a trip, from beginning to end. Most of the time, you’re in the earthy chocolate/cocoa zone, but spice and sweetness show their faces here and there in interesting ways. There’s so much smoking to be done, and there’s no rush. It’s a stogie that’s going to be with you for a while.
The Island Jim line is growing in a major way! Visit Leaf and Bean in Pittsburgh to say “hello” to Island Jim Robinson himself, if you’re in the area.
