How did they get the Punch Gran Puro cigar so right? This cigar uses only Honduran tobacco and it’s just fantastic. Not to be confused with its also fantastic sibling, the Gran Puro Nicaragua, this focused blend provides the best that Honduras has to offer. It’s no wonder why it was named the #10 Cigar of 2016, according to Cigar Aficionado, with a 93-point rating.
Since 2003, this blend has been put together to showcase the nation’s finest flavors, and each year, it doesn’t disappoint. Rich leather dried cranberry and plum, and cinnamon all make for a tongue-tingling smoke that just keeps you drawing on and on. It’s hit the Cigar Aficionado top cigars list many times and has always been described as a wonderful smoke, as well as a great value. Usually, it’s around $5-7, but punches way above its weight class, hanging in with cigars that are $10 or even $15 easily. We can’t describe Punch Gran Puro cigars as an underrated smoke or a “best-kept secret,” given how well known the blend is at this point. We can say, however, that this is a reliably delicious cigar that you can always come back to and be reminded of just how great Honduran tobacco can really be.
The Punch Gran Puro is, true to its name, a Honduran puro with a sun-grown Habano-seed wrapper from the St. Augustín valley. This distinguishes it from many cigars that use tobacco from the popular Danlí region to the east that’s right near Nicaragua. Instead, these fields are in the west of the nation, close to the borders of El Salvador and Guatemala. It is by no means a bustling area. Instead, the humble fields simply put forth their tobacco in the peaceful sunshine, allowing it to grow flavorful and strong.
Great tobacco from great soil. It’s as straightforward as it gets, and yet so much complexity makes this cigar a top-quality puff.
