The strange formula on the band should tip you off – this cigar isn’t one to follow the standard. Instead, the Quesada Heisenberg cigar was made from a different calculation.
For non-nerds, Werner Heisenberg famously articulated the idea in 1927 that, when we precisely measure a variable of a particle-like position or momentum, we necessarily increase our uncertainty about the other variable. That is, you can’t get a great handle on position without losing your grip on momentum. And vice versa.
What the HELL does this have to do with cigars? A lot, actually.
In the case of the Quesada Heisenberg cigar, the company challenges us to experience the cigar as is, without trying to precisely measure the strength or a particular flavor note. Because to do so would inherently decrease our understanding of the other qualities of the blend. Sound like someone smoked too much Ligero on an empty stomach? Here’s Quesada’s own explanation:
“How often do we pass on an opportunity to experience a new cigar because it’s not from a certain country, factory, or made from certain tobaccos? How often do we spend our time analyzing every flavor and nuance in a cigar rather than simply enjoying it in the moment? So with this in mind we will not be releasing any information on the Heisenberg blend … We want aficionados to smoke the Heisenberg with as few preconceived notions as possible.”
The company adds:
“Embrace uncertainty.”
So the idea here is to put away precision and detail and study cigars for another day. The Quesada Heisenberg cigar is one you should smoke as if you were an explorer of a post-apocalyptic world and you found a pile of unbanded cigars with no logo or identifying marks on them. Without any breakdown of the details, what would you do? Would you not be able to smoke them?
Of course not! You’d nibble off the head end, then rub two sticks together until you could get enough of a fire going to light the damn things up, and you’d enjoy them exactly like they are, right? That’s what Quesada Heisenberg cigars are about – just having the experience without trying to measure things too precisely.
Now, you may already be a pro at that. We suspect many people are. After all, the folks who have been in the cigar industry for ages like the Quesada team have probably gotten sick to death sometimes of all the details being discussed ad nauseam. They may get a little out of touch with the many, many cigar lovers out there who simply light up and get on with life. We happen to think this is most smokers. But if you have a tendency to overanalyze, this is your opportunity to unplug your mind, kick back, and have a good smoke.
You have Quesada’s permission (not that you needed it).
