Smoke the winner of the 2011 Humo Jaguar Festival!
What do you mean, “Never heard of it?”
Okay, okay. We don’t blame you. It looks like the festival died almost as quickly as it was created, never becoming the staple of the Honduran tobacco industry it once promised to be. But for a brief, shining moment in 2011 however, it was, as the kids say, “lit.”
Guided tours of plantations and factories! Meetings with industry leaders and experts! Business opportunities! Dining, concerts, fiestas, and more!
What’s not to love? After all, Honduras is part of the Mayan “cradle of tobacco.” The word “cigar” even comes from the Mayan word “sikar,” which means “to smoke tobacco leaves.” Well, for better or for worse, the festival didn’t continue, but it did crown a winning cigar: the Rocky Patel Edicion Unico/Unica.
(There is actually some controversy about that. Miami Cigar and Co. also claimed a win and released a Humo Jaguar blend, but we’ll skip litigating that one for now and just focus on the delicious cigar before us.)
In true Rocky Patel style, these smokes come in boxes of 100. The Edicion Unico is a Honduran puro with a rich brown Jamastran wrapper the color of milk chocolate. Inside, there’s a filler blend of Jamastran and Talanga Valley ligero bunched up. When lit, you’ll get the delicious flavors of barbeque, espresso, spice. It’s like a miniature festival unto itself, really.
You know, now that we think about it, there need to be way more cigar festivals in the world. We’ll get on that… right after this next smoke.
