If this cigar had never come along, there might not be any such thing as Rocky Patel cigars! No chart-toppers, no beloved smokes, no long, satisfying draws while gazing at the RP logo. The Vintage 1990 cigar was a huge milestone for the company.
You see, in 1995, Rocky had just gotten into the world of cigars as a businessman. He wasn’t a blender or a grower or anything like that. He was just a financier. He kind of got into the cigar industry by accident. He was at the Grand Havana Room in Los Angeles smoking when someone approached him looking for funding for a new cigar venture. As an attorney to stars like Gene Hackman and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rocky had the cash to invest. Long story short – he went in, and Indian Tabac cigars were born.
But with cigars, it never ends at just one puff, right?
Rocky got drawn in deep, and before he knew it, he was visiting plantations and cigar factories, learning the industry from bottom to top. Eventually, it was time to really branch out on his own. The company was renamed to “Rocky Patel” cigars, and one of the very first breakout blends that was sent to market was the Vintage 1990. It was one of the main cigars that helped Mr. Patel carve out a reputation for taste and quality that he would leverage to grow and open up new opportunities in a traditionally highly closed industry.
The cigar earned a 91 rating and was named the #16 cigar of 2006 by Cigar Aficionado. Featuring a Honduras Broadleaf wrapper and Nicaraguan filler, the smoke offers the sweet flavors of nuts, caramel, and cocoa. It’s a really enjoyable cigar that always gets better as you go along from one puff to the next. It should be a cornerstone of the humidor of any fan of Rocky Patel smokes.
