Viaje Viaje cigars aren’t a special line from the company. It seems to be a naming convention we sometimes see, like on the Viaje Viaje Zombie blend. So we’ll talk a bit about Viaje itself.
Company founder Andre Farkas had worked in selling cigars as a retailer for some time. And he had business acumen as a talent agent. All he needed to get in the cigar game was to get down to the fields and factories and learn how tobacco went from seeds in the dirt to those final polished products that pull us in like magnets when we walk into a shop’s humidor.
Working at Joya de Nicaragua and then Raices Cubanas in Honduras, he got a feel for what he needed and crafted his first blends. He called them “Viaje” or “journey. Eventually, he put together one spectacular blend in 2010 that was honored as Cigar Aficionado’s #2 cigar of the year. The Oro Reserva VOR had a 95-point rating thanks to its leather, sweet spice, and cocoa notes. And Viaje had its cue to walk onstage with the big boys in the national cigar industry spotlight.
Viaje Viaje cigars are built with a boutique philosophy, even to this day. The brand is known for limited releases and always stays ready to find something new and turn it into a production run, striking while the iron is hot. A few core lines have become mainstays, but we look to Viaje Viaje for great taste and exciting flavor profiles. If you see something fresh in any given year, you can bet that the blending team has something worth smoking.
It’s not focusing on the destination. It’s about enjoying the journey.
