No, the Warped Nicotina isn’t an all-out nicotine blast. The name of the cigar comes from an old Cuban cigar company from before any of us were born. But because this throwback brand hasn’t been in popularity since the 1880s, Warped founder Kyle Gellis was free to snap it up.
The cigar sports old-school art on the band, but is delivered in an incredibly humble box. This one is all about the blend itself, clearly. The sooner you can get it lit up, the better!
The concept behind the Warped Nicotina cigar is to produce a more full-bodied blend than the company usually targets. It isn’t meant to be a powerhouse, but instead is complex and yet balanced in true Warped style. The name probably is going to make people think that this one will bowl you over, but it won’t. Don’t be scared – Nicotina is quite a nice lady – even if she IS a bit peppery!
Warped Nicotina cigars are made with high-quality Aganorsa Leaf Nicaraguan tobacco. This is the same grower that provided the tobacco for Cigar Aficionado’s #3 cigar of 2019, the Warped Serie Gran Reserva 1988. Coming in with a 95 rating, really helped the company follow up on the success of the 93-rated Guardian of the Farm line. Thanks to these blends and the outstanding use of Aganorsa tobacco, Warped has catapulted itself into the national conversation about premium cigars.
The Warped Nicotina is a Nicaraguan puro, using only tobacco grown in that nation. The wrapper is Corojo ’99, the binder is criollo ’98, and the filler blend combines the two. This Cuban seed leaf brings out the best of traditional flavors, including punchy pepper, roasted coffee, and a honey/caramel finish. Folks who love classic blends will probably find themselves right at home here. It’s not a super easygoing smoke, but it offers the personality that’s been popular for decades, if not longer.
