This fantastic cigar from Arturo Fuente was named the #5 cigar of the year in 2012 with a very impressive 94 rating. In 2016 it was the #6 cigar with another 94 ratings from Cigar Aficionado. This Arturo Fuente Magnum R Rosado Sungrown Vitola 44 cigar is made in Dominican Republic. Outside, you'll find an Ecuadoran Sungrown Sumatra wrapper. Inside, the binder is Dominican, and the filler is Dominican. This is a Petit Corona cigar with a length of 4.90 and a ring gauge of 47.
We know from the OpusX cigar line that the Fuentes know how to bring power. But the Magnum R Rosado Sungrown Vitola 44 cigars remind us how masterfully they can blend up something more elegant.
Unlike their OpusX cousins, the Magnum Rs aren´t wrapped in Chateau de la Fuente Dominican wrappers. Instead, they´ve got a lovely red-colored Rosado leaf taken from lower primings. That is, the wrapper on this cigar is made with leaves that grew towards the bottom of the stalk of the tobacco plant. The reason to use these leaves is to get more moderate spice and strength, to provide a smoke that´s also a bit more medium-bodied.
Of course, Carlito Fuente wouldn´t stop there. In fact, those leaves will forget they were ever on a tobacco stalk during the ten-year aging process, which takes moderate priming and turns it into an incredibly complex and mature product through the magic of time and patience, of which the Fuente family has an endless supply, it seems.
Restraint, not power. It´s a different side of Fuente.
Amazingly, the smoke still has a rich array of flavors that sail through in each relaxing, easy draw. The Magnum R Rosado Sungrown Vitola 44 cigar is creamy, smooth, and has an interesting flavor profile. Sweetness and cedar, mild leather, and a light mineral finish make this one a true delight, and one many have gotten addicted to.
We don´t blame them at all this one´s another top-level Fuente cigar that will be filling humidors for years to come.

Good smoke for its size
Got got these for an afternoon smoke when I really didn’t have time to smoke a large one and was pleasantly surprised by the burn. They developed a beautiful ash and draw so easy. Too easy In fact, so I started using a punch instead of a cutter and that seem to have corrected an uneven burn and hot boxing tendency. The unusual count box size is nice too.
Good smoke
Excellent construction, even burn. A good smoke, with a bit unidimensional blend for my taste. Would benefit from a longer rest in the humidor, IMO.
Cigars Direct proved worthy.
