What were you doing in 2011? Were you even into cigars then? Well, the tobacco in the Caldwell Lost and Found Super Stroke Vintage 2011 was just being harvested on farms around the many growing regions of the western world. It was blended with care and rolled into stogies that were then laid by to age until their time would come to be smoked.
As it turns out, that day was a long time coming. Do we wonder if these were the cigars that time forgot?
No matter. Robert Caldwell and his crew of merry adventurers have a nose for great tobacco, and they can find great cigars that are simply waiting for the right moment to come along. That’s what the Lost and Found line are all about. There’s good stuff out there in aging vaults and storage rooms, and if it passes the smoke test, it might get a fresh band and be introduced to the market as one of Caldwell’s latest finds. We never know what caused L&F cigars to be put aside in the first place, but all that really matters is the smoke. If they’re decent, they’re going to ship.
Fortunately, with this one, we’ve got some specifics to share. This isn’t always the case, and Caldwell is notorious for mystery sticks, but today there are some details to check out. The interior blend is Dominican, Nicaraguan, and Brazilian, while the wrapper leaf is faded Ecuador Habano tobacco. This is to be expected. The result of aging tobacco is to take some of the bite out of it in exchange for a more mature flavor profile. The color can drop too as compounds in the leaf slowly decrease.
The taste is surprisingly nice, though.
The Caldwell Lost and Found Super Stroke Vintage 2011 weaves a really fine pepper note in with a creamy vanilla cookie. It’s a gentle, subtle set of notes that shows the special development that comes with years of patient, dedicated aging. Many cigars can really benefit from time in the humidor, so a smoke-like this is quite the rare treat. It’s pre-aged and 100% ready to go as soon as you receive it.
And yes, the name and imagery are referencing exactly what you’d think.

Caldwell Lost & Found Super Stroke
Caldwell Lost & Found Super Stroke’s filler includes Nicaraguan, Doinican and Brazilian tobacco. It’s cloaked in a tad oily light brown Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper. The wrapper is smooth. Not so sure about the artwork on the cigar band and the 5-pack packaging. Cedar, nuts, well aged tobacco, grassy, earthy, a touch of pepper, mild vegetable and herbal notes, and a grainy sweetness like a kid’s breakfast cereal – think Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes. The dominant flavors are wood and nuts with the other flavors doing a balancing act in the background. A mustiness is present on the final third. There’s not a lot of complexity, but the flavors, though basic and minimal, simple work well together. Smooth is the word that comes to mind. This is a very enjoyable smoke. Construction: Loose draw, even burn, solid ash and ample smoke production. If you’re a fan of Caldwell’s Lost & Founds with their aged tobacco flavors or if you like woody, nutty cigars, give Super Stroke a try. The only more wood/nut-forward cigar I have experienced recently is the Southern Draw Kudzu. This is in that ballpark.
