ONLY 2500 BOXES PRODUCED
This Crowned Heads Azul y Oro Limited Edition Toro cigar is made in the Dominican Republic. Outside, you'll find an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. Inside, the binder is Nicaraguan, and the filler is Dominican. This is a Toro cigar with a length of 6.00 and a ring gauge of 50.
Crowned Heads Azul y Oro cigars are not a nod to a sports team, although we wouldn’t be surprised to find people enjoying them by making that connection. Instead, their look was inspired by a classic: Johnny Walker Blue Label. This rare and delicious blended scotch whiskey is the company’s flagship luxury. One in 10,000 casks is good enough to become Johnny Blue, so it’s no surprise that it is among Gustavo Cura’s favorite libations. And it’s also no surprise that the Crowned Heads team gifted a bottle to Cura at the kickoff of the partnership between CH and Oliva Tobacco (not to be confused with Oliva Cigars, the illustrious makers of the award-winning Melanio blend).
But we digress. Azul y Oro cigars are one of the fine products of that collaboration, also made with the help of Raul Disla, master cigar maker at the NACSA factory. There’s much tobacco knowledge going into this blend, and it’s quite a fine bit of smoke once you get it going.
The filler blend is mainly Nicaraguan, coming from three locations. There’s also a Dominican leaf in the mix to keep things interesting. Over this goes a Nicaraguan Jalapa binder and then an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. The careful approach to blending pays off with this stogie, and you can taste the depth of flavor in your pulls. The profile is earthy, showing notes of black pepper, worn leather, wood, and dark chocolate. It’s a manly cigar made by dedicated tobacco men who’ve been hard at work longer than some have been alive.
The Crowned Heads folks made a good choice when they chose their collaborators and their blend recipe. Blue and gold will be one of the cigars to watch in its release year for people who like a hearty dose of flavor and spice.
