Drew Estate Kentucky Fire Cured and Undercrown Flying Pig Sampler Drew Estate Kentucky Fire Cured and Undercrown Flying Pig Sampler
The Drew Estate Kentucky Fire Cured and Undercrown Flying Pig Sampler is a great way to experience the core Undercrown Flying Pigs, along with the deliciously smoky Kentucky Fire Cured Flying Pig.

In this sampler, you're getting four different cigars (with two of each included). Each one is in Drew Estate's delectable Flying Pig size, a 4 - 60 cigar that's short and squat, bringing all the flavor you can handle in a compact porky package.

Oink, oink!

Drew Estate Undercrown Maduro Flying Pig

The Maduro is the original Drew Estate Undercrown blend first created by the roller team tasked with the challenge of making something to substitute for the Liga Privada No. 9. The factory floor folks were smoking a bit too much for management's liking, as the story goes.

Can you blame them? The Liga Privada No. 9 was the 94-rated masterpiece that really catapulted Drew Estate into the group of cigar companies that are capable of making truly premium sticks.

The Drew Estate Undercrown Maduro Flying Pig cigar was created to use similar tobacco types but focuses on different primings and vintages. This means that you're getting a Liga-style smoke, but one that uses more accessible leaves.

Instead of the Connecticut broadleaf, this Flying Pig is wrapped in a Mexican Otapan negro Ultimo Corte (a fancy name for a dark Maduro cover leaf). The binder selected is a T52 Connecticut River Valley Habano, and the long-fillers are Nicaraguan and Brazilian tobaccos.

You get a delicious creamy espresso flavor with a hint of sweetness. It's a simpler take on the Liga flavor profile from the first cigar in the Drew Estate Kentucky Fire Cured and Undercrown Flying Pig Sampler.

Drew Estate Undercrown Shade Flying Pig

The successor to the Undercrown Maduro is the Undercrown Shade. By moving away from the dark Maduro wrapper, the Drew Estate Undercrown Shade Flying Pig took things in a lighter direction in both color and flavor.

The reason for the change in direction is the fact that blender Willy Herrera (of Herrera Esteli fame) got involved as a collaborator with the roller team, bringing his own unique sensibilities to the table. As a result, the Undercrown Shade dropped the Connecticut broadleaf wrapper in favor of an Ecuadorian CT shade leaf. The interior blend also shifted away from the Brazilian Mata Fina binder and instead used Sumatra tobacco. And in the long-filler blend, the Dominican leaf was introduced.

The Drew Estate Undercrown Shade Flying Pig is a different kind of Undercrown, for sure. There's a kick of white pepper, and then instead of chocolate and leather, things are lightened up with the flavors of sweet tea and cream. It's the least piggish of the Flying Pigs in the Drew Estate Kentucky Fire Cured and Undercrown Flying Pig Sampler.

Drew Estate Undercrown Sungrown Flying Pig

The Drew Estate Undercrown Sungrown Flying Pig was the third release in the Undercrown line, and to borrow from an ancient song, it's "bringing spicy back". The leather and espresso notes are not too surprising, but the hot cinnamon finish is what makes it memorable and allows it to stand on its own.

The inside of the Undercrown Sungrown blend features Nicaraguan long-fillers, a Connecticut Habano binder, and an Ecuadorian Sumatra cover leaf. Just to keep things interesting, there's also an extra leaf of Ligero in there to keep you on your toes. The Drew Estate Kentucky Fire Cured and Undercrown Flying Pig Sampler has multiple dimensions, folks.

Drew Estate Kentucky Fire Cured Flying Pig

Oh boy, what a smoke! This one really runs with the whole Flying Pig theme by tasting like a barbequed hog, thanks to the fire-curing process that Drew Estate uses right after harvesting. Instead of letting green tobacco leaves air cure, this line smokes them out, creating an additional layer of smokiness before you even get your lighter out.

Why the hell not, right? We're already smoking cigars, might as well double down on the smoke.

You're also getting more barbeque action thanks to the Kentucky and Virginia tobaccos found in the blend alongside the traditional Liga leaves like the Nicaraguan long-filler, the Brazilian Mata Fina binder, and the Maduro wrapper (this time, from Mexico).

The Drew Estate Kentucky Fire Cured Flying Pig offers the flavors of hickory, oak, and a touch of sweet maple. If you've just finished off a plate of ribs and want to keep the party going, this is probably the cigar to reach for and to enjoy with your next cold beer.

Please enjoy the Drew Estate Kentucky Fire Cured and Undercrown Flying Pig Sampler at your leisure.
