Punch Rare Corojo cigars are a bit of a special line at the Punch company. The core blend is well known, but most years see a special limited edition vitola created. This vitola is rolled up and once it’s all sold, it’s gone. Next year, there will be something else created to celebrate the Rare Corojo line and then the fan frenzy will start all over again.
The point is – these sell out fast! The non-Cuban branch of the Punch cigar company has been rolling them up for many years and they’re always a hit.
The core Punch Rare Corojo blend is a good one, usually scoring over 90 points with Cigar Aficionado. The wrapper is a Sumatra-seed leaf grown in Ecuador. This then covers a Connecticut broadleaf binder and a long-filler blend of Dominican, Honduran, and Nicaraguan tobacco. Flavors from the smoke usually include something woody like cedar, along with cocoa, vanilla, or other rich dessert notes. It’s a reliably excellent smoke.
In years past, special sizes and shapes have included plenty of large cigars and also intriguing Salomons, and more. If you want a special smoke, the Punch Rare Corojo will definitely take you away from the ordinary.
For those who aren’t up on tobacco history, Corojo is a varietal that was first developed ages ago in Cuba. It initially became the wrapper leaf of choice (replacing criollo), but over the years many hybrids have been developed to reduce susceptibility to crop diseases and to promote other good qualities. Still, many cigar lovers will always welcome some nice Corojo tobacco in their blends. It’s just a classic leaf.
