This Tatuaje Tuxtla Limited Edition 7th Corona cigar is made in Nicaragua. Outside, you'll find a Mexican San Andres wrapper. Inside, the binder is Nicaraguan, and the filler is Nicaraguan. This is a Corona cigar with a length of 5.63 and a ring gauge of 46.
The Tatuaje 7th Reserva was an excellent little smoke that the company has carefully crafted for years. This Limited Edition Tuxtla version keeps the core of Nicaraguan long-fillers that have been so nice for so long but change its coat. Instead of the Ecuadorian Sumatra, this one takes a wrapper that is the theme of this whole Tuxtla series: the Mexican San Andrés leaf.
The formal name of the central town for the region is San Andrés Tuxtla. It’s that last word that’s often left off the description of the tobacco, but Tatuaje is bringing it to the spotlight. Three different blends are getting a new wrapper for this season: the 7th, the T110, and the Avion.
Each one gets to swirl in the smoky flavor of a wrapper leaf that is incredibly distinctive – one of the most obvious flavors on the market, really. That earthy, peppery Maduro profile is one you could probably pick out blindfolded any day of the week after a few draws. It just doesn’t hide at all, which is what most blenders are going for when they try to work with it. In fact, Tatuaje founder Pete Johnson mentioned that he specifically tried to pick out blends that could stand up to the character of the Mexican tobacco for this special series of stogies.
The Tatuaje Tuxtla Limited Edition 7th cigar is earthy, spicy, and a treat. As with the Avion, it’s a bit hard to judge whether the Limited Edition is actually superior to the original. The original offered a wealth of complex and enjoyable flavor, and this LE does as well. It probably comes down to how much punch you want in your smoke, really. If you’d prefer that spice to really spike out of the profile, you’re going to like what’s going on in the Tuxtla limited edition 7th (as well as the other new blends in the series).
It’s a spicy take on a classic, and we’re totally here for it.
