Punch limited release cigars give you a chance to enjoy something a little different from Punch. For the sake of clarity, these cigars are made by the Honduran Punch company, not the Cuban one.
There haven’t been a ton of Punch limited release cigars available at Cigars Direct at the time of this writing, but there’s one we can talk about that was created to celebrate the Year of the Ox: the Punch King Pow!
The box tells you right away you’re in for something different. There’s no traditional wooden cigar box here. Instead, you’re getting the cigar version of Chinese takeaway. Your substitute for kung pao chicken is the Punch limited release cigars inside.
The blend for the Punch Kung Pow! has long-fillers from Honduras, Brazil, the DR, and Mexico rolled into a Habano-seed binder from Honduras and finished with a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper. There’s a shaggy foot, which means that no wrapper leaf is around the very end of the cigar that you’ll light up first, allowing you to enjoy the filler blend alone before experiencing the entire cigar a few moments later.
The flavors of this particular Punch limited release cigar have notes of earth, sourdough, and sunflower seeds. It’s a salty blend with a dash of spice, and definitely will put you in the mood for some real Chinese food. Also, if you unwrap the bands, you’ll also find little messages kind of like a fortune cookie. We could see that trend really taking off, honestly. Who doesn’t want a little wisdom with their smoke?
As Punch goes along, we expect to see more special edition cigars from the factory down in Danli, Honduras. Until then, we’ll await the next jab from this handsy cigar company.
